The Perfect Golf Swing Has Been FOUND!
Yup, I finally did it! I found the perfect golf swing… Actually, I found MILLIONS of them!
Now you KNOW I’m off of my rocker…
I say it all of the time. There is a perfect golf swing in each one of us. You’ve probably made a perfect golf swing at one time or another. In fact, when you did, it probably caught you by surprise, making you wonder how you did it…
And of course, it made you wonder how to do it again, which is the wonder that brings us back AND the frustration that can make us throw clubs.
It’s there… Inside of you… Trying to get out.
So WHY can’t you do it when you want to? That’s what I’m going to finally answer today.
The perfect Golf Swing is locked inside your subconscious mind, which is where the problems start. You see, the subconscious mind runs just about everything going on in your body right now… AND it controls physical movements such as the golf swing, or shooting hoops, or catching a football.
And then, there’s the other brain… The conscious brain. That’s the brain that thinks, or so we think. Actually, the conscious brain is the boss of the two brains and it’s the brain that handles problems, asks questions, notices things and communicates with the outside world (the inside world being “in the brain).
Contrary to popular belief, the conscious brain CANNOT handle the complicated task of guiding the body through a complicated movement like the golf swing. Heck, try to walk while consciously thinking about how you place each step and you’ll see how weird it feels. It’s no wonder the golf swing is so hard to learn!
In terms of thinking, the conscious mind is actually only a Director, which tells the subconscious which memories or facts to pull up and examine in any situation. it tells the subconscious what to look for as it scans the memory banks, much like you would enter a search term into GOOGLE to find information.
As the boss, the conscious also directs the subconscious as to what movements it wants the body to make… And if there’s a mistake… The conscious is quick to tell the subconscious that it is screwing up… Even sometimes trying to take over for the subconscious, which often leads to frustration.
Say for example you have a somewhat routine shot to make o the golf course. The conscious KNOWS the subconscious can handle it so it gives the order and goes off to “multitask” while the swing is being made. Suddenly, the conscious mind realizes that the shot was messed up and starts asking the subconscious what happened…
So… Do you want the truth as to why the shot wasn’t perfect, or the excuse that comes out?
The truth is that the subconscious is busy doing lots of things based on list of internal priorities… And the golf swing just ain’t at the top of the priority list.
The subconscious has a few priorities that are more important… Like “keep the body working and unhurt”. Which means that if you trip on something, you IMMEDIATELY react in a fashion that will hopefully keep you from injuring yourself.
So that’s the real problem you have to deal with every day on the golf course… A list of priorities in the subconscious that supersede the golf swing, so if the swing wasn’t so good… Only the conscious cares, the subconscious has moved on to what ever is happening to the body at the very moment.
The subconscious doesn’t have time to care, nor does it have the capacity to care what happened! The subconscious HAS to stay in the present… The ONE place where emotion doesn’t exist.
Now I could go on and show how it’s the conscious that screws up the golf swing, but that would lead us away from the real discovery. Actually, that is the thinking that created golf psychology and NLP, which both correctly blame the conscious for interrupting the process and try to fix the conscious mind…
BUT, the real problem leading to inconsistent golf shots still exists when you only correct the conscious mind!
The REAL reason for inconsistencies from shot to shot is that the subconscious places the golf swing low on it’s priority list!
So how can you fix that?
I think, I want to see what ideas come up before I reveal the answer…
So… Ponder this situation and leave your comments telling me how YOU would get the subconscious to raise the priority of the golf swing.
Let me know, or I won’t bother answering the problem!
Hit’m well

The more you consciously focus on the swing you want you to make the higher it becomes as a priority for your unconscious mind to deliver. In fact the more you recall yourself hitting a similar shot well in the past and just like the one you are about to play, the clearer the message you are giving your unconscious or subsconscious mind.
Real Consequences!
Swing in a situation where losing balance even a little, for example, would cause you to fall.
Swing with your two children on either side of the line of flight, between you and the target.
I believe that the consious mind can inhibit your swing. I also believe that 90% of the swing is in the set-up. Alot of people have a pre-shot routine & set-up that’s automatic. I think our conscious mind tends to waunder sometimes instead of focusing on the task at hand. I have hit some of my best shots when it seemed I had no thought at all & made a good swing on the ball.
This is correct. When I’m playing my best golf I’m thinking about making the golf shot or the putt with the focus on nothing else but feeling. I spend time on the range before each round working on whatever mechanical issue may be presenting itself. Most of the times I walk off the range with a single thought to keep with me throughout the round but mostly focus on the feeling of making the swing/shot/chip/putt. This flows from other sports I used to play like baseball/football/basketball. I never thought about how to snap a curve ball over the outside corner of the plate. It was just something I saw happening prior to the pitch and then made my body do it. No “thinking” involved.
Bad rounds happen when I’m focused on the mechanical parts of the swing. This will creep in from time to time as you work on the correct fundamentals of the swing.
To use the power of the subconsious mind in a golf swing, a golfer would first have to know how to physically and correctly make a golf swing, which of course should happen on the practice tee. Then on the golf course, the golfer would make his preshot routine, visualize the shot and truly commit to what he is about to do, then let the subconsious handle the swing according to the golfer’s skill level. But for the subconsious to do this, the consious mind would have to be distracted so that it doesn’t put doubt to the golfer by being critical. One can’t make a swing if he is thinking about the grip, the take-away, the plane, downsing and still be worried about the water or out of bounds. All this happen because the consious mind is able to multitask and is very critical, which would in turn interfere with what the subconsious is about to do. The last thought you instruct the subconsious would be the one it execute perfectly every time. So if proper visualization is done, and commitment to the shot are the last thing fed to the subconsious, then a perfect shot would be executed. So the consious mind have to be kept busy with simple things like focusing on your breathing or a particular spot on the ball, and the subconsious would do its job properly.
Only think about the result… visualise the outcome, see the ball bouncing down the middle of the fairway or dropping into the hole. Results, not how to do it, have what’s helped me when out playing on the course. Make changes, and ingrain them, at the range then trust your subconscious mind to deliver to meet the desired imagined outcome out on the course.
How about making it think its a life or death moment, if we don’t pull this shot off,we’re dead. Probably not, because we say don’t hit in the water or out of bounds thats is what we’ll do. Play care free. Most of my best rounds last year, I played my best caring less about my score and just go have fun,no matter what else happened. I really enjoyed myself, cut up with the guys and just had fun. Isn’t that why we’re here on earth to do?
Another hint:
The conscious mind usually inhibits your unconscious mind when it is either having an ADD moment and doesn’t realize it’s bothering the unconscious, or when it decides the unconscious just can’t do something and the conscious tries to take over…
But I found a way for the conscious mind to help without hindering the process.
Any ideas?
One word…… Focus
If REAL reason for inconsistencies from shot to shot is that the subconscious places the golf swing low on it’s priority list then we must make sure that the things higher up on the priority list are already taken care of before the golf swing. This will bring the golf swing towards the top.
The things higher up are the autonomous controls the subconscious takes care of such as breathing, heartbeat, balance, you now… the “running the body” kinda stuff. It’s not a choice, it’s built into our DNA. So… It’s not something we can consciously control. That part of the list is “hands off” because to mess with that could end your life…
Make more sense?
