Why Does The Subconscious Mind Still Fail?
I feel SOOOO misunderstood! Let me restate what I’m looking for in the two posts below if you’re just getting here…
We have already established that the Conscious is the easy target… There are plenty of good specialists that will help fix the conscious, so let’s put it aside for now.
We KNOW that the subconscious makes the swing…
GIVEN the golfer (professional) who does this well… No conscious distraction, trust the subconscious…
WHY does he still have bad days? You know… when he’s thinking properly yet he still doesn’t hit the ball right, even though he KNOWS he’s not distracting himself…
It means that the subconscious DOESN’T ALWAYS make the perfect golf swing…
WHY NOT?
(This is how a golfer who KNOWS how to think unconsciously and does it well, CAN STILL end up doubting everything he has been taught.)
I gave you the answer…the subconscious will only raise the golf swing to the top of the priority list of stuff THAT DOES NOT INVOLVE keeping you alive and safe.
Less priority means less focus. You want the subconscious mind to focus more on your golf swing, you have to move it into that area of “life and death” stuff… But…
THE Brain IS NOT going to allow anything above that point!
But I found a loophole… I have found a way to move the golf swing up into the “untouchable zone” of stuff in the subconscious priority list so that the subconscious focuses more on the swing.
I’m just asking if anyone has an idea HOW I did it?
To rephrase the situation… I’m asking you to think OUTSIDE THE BOX here. Although the comments are at the outer edges of the box compared to the most popular thoughts of “fix the darned swing”, I’m looking to stretch your minds, because that’s when the light comes on and you smash the walls holding you back.
Anyone want to smash walls?
(Here’s a hint… I have to get the Conscious mind to help out with this one.)
Popularity: 3%

Tell your unconscious mind to put the swing you are about to make at the top of the priority list.
Tell your subconscious that all is well with you - you are safe and sound and that you want it to see yourself swing the way you want to produce he shot you want.
We established that the Unconscious mind won’t do that… So there has to be another way…
Have the conscious mind create a scenario where the golf swing/shot does become a matter of life and death?! Thereby raising it into the unchartered territory for the subconscious mind to focus on
OK, what are you asking for here?
What sort of conscious decision/focus will force or trick the subconscious into treating the golf swing about to be performed as a high priority (life or death quivalent) task?
Is that the correct question?
If so then perhaps something related to the breath might work. For example exhaling completely and then swinging, only breathing in after the swing is completed. Perhaps that would get the subconscious to pay attention.
Recall past success and make connections with the positive physical and emotional reactions of how this made you feel.
Or I could let you give me a shock every time I didn’t make a “perfect” swing. That should get my subconscious’ attention!
or something like an orgasm every time I do make a perfect swing. That’d be neat! Actually that’s not far from the feeling I get now when I hit a pure shot.
Imagine that you are under a sword attack and your swing is a defensive counter thrust against an opponent who is trying to kill you! Swashbuckling 5 iron…
I’m guessing it has something to do with amping up the submodalities associated with your golf game so that they move up above business, family friends, health, etc temporary while you make the shot. Perhalps you anchor that process and then trigger it before making the shot and then have some other anchor to put it back into perspective.
I don’t know, I’m just guessing. Please share the process.
Jim,
Good idea, but all of those are conscious priorities.
Is there a way to occupy your concious mind to keep it from messing with the subconcious mind. Say, some thought you could call up to trick the concious mind into being quiet for the shot?
I keep coming back to thinking that this will turn out to relate to the body wanting to stay in physical balance. But you’ve already shared so much of that theory and process. So this loophole must involve some other existing overriding subconscious program. It doesn’t seem likely that you’ve come up with a way to install a new subconscious high priority task.
But from your responses it seems like the loophole does NOT involve setting up some conscious scenario whereby the “keep me out of danger” task is activated.
Hmmm? Smashing walls… get the Conscious mind to help out …
Ta Da!
That’s exactly it Rich! You see, Balance is in the “Life or Death” part of the subconscious priority list. By tying the golf swing to the need to stay in balance, the swing immediately gets moved up in priority and immediately gets more focus than before. That’s why the result come so fast!
Now, I add another concept with Bio-Visual Focus. That is focusing on what the subconscious is focusing on during the shot.
The way I get the conscious to help out (instead of interrupt) is that I involve the conscious in the process.
1) Hit balls with your eyes closed until you “see” what the subconscious is looking for during the swing - when you do… provided you are in balance, you’ll hit the ball well.
2)Take the picture the subconscious is making, “tweak” it in the conscious to create a more vivid picture and to better achieve the desired results.
3) drop the picture back into the subconscious… Except now, since it took part in the process, the conscious is sitting by quietly watching to make sure you see the right picture!
The results are ridiculously uncanny accuracy and relaxed distance with no interruption from the conscious.
Voila!
Oh, I forgot the most important part…
The visualization works well for two reasons.
1) It is the same picture the subconscious uses to make the golf swing…
2) It is tied to balance feedback so that the picture is being checked and further “tweaked” by comparison to live feedback from the body.
In other words, the subconscious mind cannot disregard this picture as “made up” because it agrees with the feedback the subconscious uses to check and correct its movement.
There is no argument in the mind about the picture and the conscious is watching the process to see how it turns out. There is no doubt because both minds know that this is the shot process and they are both working together toward the same goal.
so, are you suggesting we go out to the range and hit balls with our eyes shut?
I think I’ll try just swinging without a ball first!
I have to admit it did occur to me that, if I set up correctly I should be able to hit the ball with my eyes closed because the whole down swing is supposed to be automatic release of the power stored in the backswing. So, if the setup is correct, and balance should dictate a proper backswing and release of that backswing and club head should return to the same place it began. maybe performing the backswing and release with the eyes closed is exacly whats needed to develop recognition of the proper feeling of being in balance. I’ll give it a go…lol I’m willing to try anything to improve.
For how long can the subconscious mind retain a perfect image? Is there something such as subconscious mind memory?
Najib,
Since the image is supported by bio-feedback from the body, the subconscious will retain the picture as long as it needs to make the movement.
My process of Bio-Visual Focus trains golfers how to build the image so that it agrees with the image in the subconscious for every shot. Since the images are similar, the subconscious mind has no problem adopting the one we create.
